Abstract
The most common cause of premature death in schizophrenic patients is the suicide. Between 25 and 50% of schizophrenic patients make a suicide attempt and about 10% of schizophrenics commit suicide. It is the precise prediction and effective prevention to suicide that is very important and crucial area in treating schizophrenic patients. For this purpose, this article reviews epidemiological studies for suicide of schizophrenic patients and literatures for suicide risk factors, such as suicidality, history of suicide attempts, depression, hopelessness, insight, cognitive functions and impulsivity in schizophrenic patients. And this article also reviews the effects of drug therapy on suicide prevention
